2 Scholarship Opportunities

The Michigan Hemingway Society offers two scholarships for the restart of their yearly conferences in northern Michigan. These scholarships provide opportunities to focus on the Michigan influence in Ernest Hemingway's life and works, especially The Nick Adams Stories.

#1: The Sparrow Stoneback Memorial Award

Amount: $500

Eligibility: Must be
     a) enrolled in a graduate program and engaged in Hemingway Studies; or
     b) non-tenured English Department faculty in Lecturer or Adjunct position; or
     c) independent scholar with a record of engagement in Hemingway Studies.

Must attend the MHS Fall Conference in October and present a 12-to-15 minute paper dealing with Hemingway's Michigan fiction.

Application details and deadline:
Submit an extensive 500-to-750 word abstract and brief bio to the Stoneback Award at stoneback.award@michiganhemingwaysociety.org by September 1st, 2021.

#2: The Bill & Donna Coté Scholarship

The Bill and Donna Coté Scholarship to attend the annual fall Michigan Hemingway Society conference is open to graduate, undergraduate, and high school students with an interest in the works and life of Ernest Hemingway.  It includes full conference registration, overnight accommodations for Friday and Saturday, and meals.  To apply, the student must submit a short essay indicating why he or she would like to attend the conference, a letter of recommendation from an instructor under whom he or she has studied literature, and contact info for both the applicant and instructor. These materials must be sent to the Coté Scholarship at cote.scholarship@michiganhemingwaysociety.org by September 1st, 2021.
